3 Tips for Upgrading Your Bathroom Lighting

As summer ends and fall approaches, bathroom lighting becomes even more important.

As summer ends and fall approaches, bathroom lighting becomes even more important. Waking up to a sunny morning can be invigorating, but what happens when it’s foggy outside? Light up your bathroom with these tips.

Add More Lighting

When you walk into the bathroom, there’s usually only one or two light fixtures: a dome light on the ceiling or a row of bulbs over the sink vanity that could be flickering out. One of the easiest ways to enhance your bathroom lighting is to add more. Master bathrooms tend to have more room than guest bathrooms, so you can afford to experiment with light levels and find the amount that you prefer. When you need light to see by, the existing light fixtures you already have will work well enough, but that doesn’t mean you should settle.

Putting lights alongside the bathroom mirror will make it easier to perform grooming tasks where you need to view your face up close – not only is it easier to shave, but you’ll also find it’s much easier to put on or take off cosmetics. Plus you’ll be able to see better when you are busy brushing your teeth or flossing. You can make sure that you don’t miss a spot!

Mimic Natural Light

There’s plenty of sunshine during the spring and summer. That means we don’t have to rely on electric lights as often. That said, upgrading your bathroom lighting can allow you to mimic the effects of natural even as it grows scarce during the upcoming fall and winter seasons. Use fixtures that are clear and transparent to avoid shading the light with different colors that might not give the effect you’re after.

Once you’ve taken care of that, you need to think about the types of bulbs you use in your new lights.  Incandescent bulbs are white, while compact fluorescent lights can provide the same kind of lighting that natural light does.

If you don’t like the sound of using fluorescent bathroom lighting, then never fear! You can always use LED lights, which are more energy-efficient and less harsh on your eyes. However, you will also want to be mindful of how bright the LEDs are, too.

Consider Decorative Lighting

Decorative lights are another component of your bathroom lighting design you can’t overlook. One way to make your bathroom feel more elegant than before is to use a dimmer switch. These switches are immensely useful for other rooms where you’d like to set a cozy mood – such as in the dining room – so don’t hesitate to try it in the bathroom too.
