Whether you are remodeling your home’s master bathroom or are looking to redo the guest bathroom, you’ll need the find a new bathtub. The opportunity to have a larger or more elegant bathtub is one of the biggest reasons most homeowners will choose to upgrade their bathroom. Here’s how to do it.Whether you are remodeling your home’s master bathroom or are looking to redo the guest bathroom, you’ll need the find a new bathtub.

Decide Built-In or Freestanding

Deciding whether you want a built-in bathtub or a freestanding one is the first of many decisions you need to make. A built-in tub has a platform that might be in the corner or under the window. The platform is often built to match the vanity in your bathroom – so expect to see the same kind of tile. If you’re remodeling, you might choose to swap out the current tile for a different style. Either way, try to match the tiles you use to make your bathroom more cohesive.

The freestanding bathtub is unsupported by any platforms around it. You can choose the shape of the tub, and what base it has. You can still fit a freestanding tub into a small bathroom because they take up less floor space.

Choose Materials

Once you have chosen the type of bathtub you want, you need to choose what it will be made of. Whether you want a built-in or freestanding bathtub, it will be made from acrylic. Acrylic tubs are much easier to keep clean, and they won’t show scratches as easily. It is also possible to choose bathtubs that are made of stone, but these are much heavier. Stone bathtubs might be a better choice for a bathroom in the basement or on the first floor because the weight of the stone and the gallons of water it takes to fill a tub could be too much for the upper floors of your home.

Choose Style

Your bathroom should be a place where you can relax and pamper yourself. Home life can be just as chaotic as our work lives, so it’s important to be able to stop and unwind at the end of a hectic day.

A soaking tub allows you to sink into some warm water and bubble bath. You can even make soaking tubs even deeper to suit your needs. The alternative is to install a therapeutic tub instead. These resemble hot tubs but are inside your home instead of out on the patio. Therapeutic bathtubs use whirlpools or air jets to massage you while you enjoy your bath.
